LOFT AT LIZ’S : LUMINOSITY
Film by Eric Minh Swenson. Music by Oceans Apart.
Luminosity — n. measurement of brightness, state of enlightenment.
Historically the artist was, perhaps, the first to deeply analyze the properties, abilities and the emotions connected to light. From Titian to Turrell, vivid color and luminescence have long been a mark of significant works. Today the subject of neuroscience, light is a powerful modulator of cognition through its long-term effects on circadian rhythmicity and its direct effects on brain function as identified through neuroimaging. Recent discoveries have provided us with a greater understanding of the physical and emotional responses induced by color and light, not absorbed through sight, but rather via one’s pineal gland (or third eye). Scientists still understand very little about the link between luminous stimuli and cognitive human responses, though artists, it seems have always resonated a deep connection and intuitive understanding of human beings’ emotional sensitivity to light.
A new year is upon us and our vision is crystalline. As we approach the coming year, we invite our audience to reflect on the past, live in the present and meditate on the future as we present the works of luminous visionaries, each poignantly articulating their own love affair with light and color. Join us in celebration as we transition into our 7th year of programming as The Loft at Liz’s presents Luminosity.
