Today we talk about
Rhea Carmi
Defining the art of Rhea Carmi or better wanting to confine it to a specific category is like wanting to enclose an eagle in a cage at all costs: you can do it, but you kill it.
Rhea like the eagle must fly, must move on the pictorial field together with her own feelings with disruptive force and unstoppable energy.
The scientific aspect of her personality, resulting from physiology studies done in her youth, leads her to divide the space in a regular and regulated way. A sort of order, organization of thought and energy that the artist needs to contain her emotionality: the rational side of the personality.
Light in its highest symbolic accent of catharsis is the fundamental theme of Carmi’s work: catharsis not as a purification of the self, but as a glimpse and emergence from darkness, evil, and adversity.
Carmi uses a variety of materials: oil, sand, water, paper, canvas and wood which require a tactile as well as visual relationship. Her works are perceived as topographies of inner landscapes, as well as maps of emotions and sensations. Her works constitute a personal diary as chronicles of events that have had an impact on humanity and nature.
Rhea Carmi has been to Naples – Italy with his works
She studied visual art at Tel-Aviv University 1974-1976, and attended Ramat-Gan Institute for The Arts 1977-1979.
Carmi is a member of the ARTROM Gallery Guild and served as juror for Abstract Forms for the ARTROM International Art Competition 2008.
The entire cycle of life with its ups and downs is represented through colors: the colors chase each other and follow one another in a continuous rhythm in a continuous alternation because life is such: an alternation of positivity and negativity.
Hence the use of colors that are largely primary and always all powerful: BLACK, as expression of darkness, adversity, evil. The RED, expression of struggle, passion and feeling.
The WHITE, expression and symbol of inner peace that comes when one pursues a just cause and fights for it. The YELLOW, expression of re-emergence from darkness, the light of victory over evil, the light of redemption, hope for the future.
